Merry Christmas From Our House to Yours

“In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. (This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria.) And everyone went to their own town to register. So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them. And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people.  Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.’ Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, ‘Glory to God in the highest heaven,
and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.’ When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, ‘Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.’ So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.”

1. What is the best gift you have ever received or given? (from Jessica Lynn Writes)

Let’s talk materialistically here. I could say Jacey, since she was born a month before Christmas and only 4 days after my birthday but, that would be too easy.

Hmm…probably my MacBook Pro Bryan got me this year as a combo birthday/Christmas present. I have wanted one FOREVER but there was always something more necessary to spend the money on.

2. Do you celebrate holidays differently when your loved one is deployed/gone or do you keep tradition? (from The Albrecht Squad)

Way differently. We usually celebrate when he is home and short of celebrating the Christian reason for the holiday, we don’t put up the tree, etc when he is gone.

3. If you celebrate Christmas, do you put an angel, star or something else on the top of your tree?

Growing up, we had one of those tacky, plastic 80′s stars and then an angel. Since Bryan and I have been married, I have had huge bows. Next year I am re-theming the tree and I’m not sure yet what I want.

4. What are your three favorite websites?

Google Reader, Facebook and Runkeeper

5. On your man do you prefer… boxers, briefs or boxer briefs? Or commando? (yeah, I’m starting to get desperate for questions!)

Bryan came into the relationship wearing briefs and those quickly left. I MUCH prefer boxer briefs and now that I opened his eyes to them, so does he :).

Dec. 12: How does your faith refresh at Christmastime?

I’ve been sitting on this post all day and I still really don’t know how to answer it.

I like to think that I have a pretty strong faith, all through out the year. Sure, I don’t read my Bible as much as I should or make it to church EVERY weekend, but my faith never wavers. Even when I got my cancer diagnosis, while I got mad at God, I didn’t forsake him or say “I don’t care about you anymore since you let this happen to me”. I realize there is a reason for everything and while I may never know it, it is there. That is what faith is to me, belief in the unseen. So trying to figure out how my faith is refreshed at Christmastime is hard.

I think that if I really step back and look, the challenges and the times that Mary and Joseph had to go through are astounding and faith restoring. Can you imagine? And we think we have it tough today. And, without that little baby being born, I would not have the gift of eternal life and forgiveness. I mean, how can anything compare to that?!

I’m still not sure i know how to answer the question other than the fact that this time of year makes these gifts even more apparent in my life and I am ever so grateful for them.

Dec. 11: You might be a military spouse at Christmas if…

…the only thing on your Christmas list is your spouse.

…your Christmas tree is still up (or gets put up) in July.

…your Christmas tree gets eaten by the movers.

…you have ornaments from 17 states and 3 countries.

…you open presents over Skype.

…your Christmas card address list is written in pencil and has been erased so many times the paper is thin. And let’s not forget the fact that it grows by about 25 people each year, yet none can be left off.

…you cook Christmas dinner for 8 even though your family only has 3, because the single troops need somewhere to go too.

1. What do you see your life like in 10 years?

Well, in 10 years, Bryan is likely to be retired from the Air Force, Jacey will be in college or the military so…way different. Hopefully my leukemia will stay stable so we can travel the world.

Maybe.

2. What do you like most about your job?

It has been a rough adjustment going from a working girl to a SAHM again, but I do like not HAVING to get dressed up everyday anymore.

3. What are three things you do every day, no matter what day it is?

Brush my teeth, kiss Bryan & love on Jacey.

4. What would you do with an extra five hours in your day today?

SLEEP!

5. What is your favorite Christmas (or whichever holiday  you celebrate) cookie recipe (please share!)?

Well, I haven’t dug them all out yet to be able to share the recipes with you, but I can share the one I am most looking forward to making/trying this year.

This one… Peanut Butter Cup Surprise Cookies. How can you not be excited about Reese’s peanut butter cups and chocolate ganache ;).
