1. Jacey’s new 3rd grade teacher seems great and does individualized instruction. Jacey also doesn’t have to take any new tests here in NV for the GATE program (gifted and talented) and the GATE teacher is awesome (their end of year field trip is to Orlando, pending district approval). I feel really relieved about this year, since I was worried out of my mind based on Clark County schools reputations.

2. I met some really great ladies at PWOC Tuesday and am getting together with some tonight. I may not be friendless in Vegas forever :).

3. Naps, because it is about the only sleep I am getting.

4. New workout clothes, so I can get back on track Monday when school starts.

5. Bryan. He dealt with USAA when we found out they FEDEX’ed our mortgage documents to Florida, even though we have told them the new address 4 times AND it is printed on the documents as our mailing address. It would not have been a pretty picture if I would have had to deal with them.

1.   What secret indulgence do you act on while your spouse is away? (from Devil Dog Darling)

Secret indulgence…hmm. Not really a secret, but I actually go get pedicures while B is gone, because he isn’t around to do them for me and I’m lazy. Oh, and I avoid “real” clothes as much as humanly possible.

2. If you were a spice, what would you be? (from New Girl On Post)

Spice Girl?! I was never really into them, so I can’t say but wasn’t it Posh Spice who is married to that hottie?!

Probably cayenne. I seem nice and calm to begin with and then bite.

3. Where do you go for support when your significant other is deployed? (from Texas Meets Washington)

At every base, I have always had a group of  “girls” that I could go to. Still trying to find that here.

4. What is the oldest thing you own? (from A Troop’s Girl)

My great-grandmother’s silver that was one of their wedding gifts. It was bought in the 40′s if I remember correctly (it is currently in the bottom of a box in a storage facility somewhere here in Vegas…not in my hope chest where it should be…grrr).

5. How did you vision your future pre-military? (from Daddy’s Duty)

I didn’t really have a pre-military vision. Bryan joined one month after we met, so it would probably be more like a pre-Bryan vision. I never wanted to get married, nor have kids and was dead set on being a pediatrician. It is amazing how love (and a crappy A&P teacher) changes your outlook on life :).

Grateful Friday

August 20, 2010

1. Jacey is all registered for school and we meet her teacher next week.

2. We have a fully executed contract on the house and the mortgage process is moving along smoothly.

3. We are out of TLF. The cottages aren’t the greatest, but at least I have more than 6 inches of counter space in the kitchen and Jacey has her own room again.

4. Jacey found new bedding for her room that she loves AND it was on clearance!

5. Having enough of a cushion in the checking account that when the AF Inns locks up $1200 of our money with a mess up that we aren’t stressed and overdrawn.

1. If you could be a fugitive from the law for whatever reason, what would your crime be? (from It’s a Hooah Life)

Some days, I wonder if it wouldn’t be for strangling some person of self-inflated importance in my husband’s chain of command.

2. How long do you think you will be a military family? (from Julie the Army Wife)

Well, we’ve been in 11 years and Bryan is career. His goal is 20 minimum. I always tell him I’ll let him know how well I like the military on the day we hit 20 and if I am happy with them, we are going to 30 :).

3. What’s your favorite recipe? (from Keep Calm and Soldier On)

Hmm…I rarely use recipes, so let me think…

Probably Alton Brown’s Curry Chicken Pot Pie or Rachael Ray’s Creamed Chicken with Gnocchi Dumplings (with added spinach). Yum.

4. What would you want your last five words to be when you leave this life? (from My Goal is Simple)

While most people probably haven’t given this any thought, I have. Getting diagnosed with leukemia at age 28 out of the blue, has a tendency to shake you a bit.

“I’ll love you, always & forever.”

I know that is technically six, but bite me ;).

5. Where do you hope to retire? (from Pennies from Heaven)

I really don’t know. We always used to say the Texas hill country, but now I am not so sure I want to go back. We’re buying a house here in Vegas and love it so far, but it is too early to tell if I want to permanently plant myself here.

Anyone have any programs they’d recommend to convert video to flash? I am not happy with the one I am using. This was shot in HD yet looks horrible after conversion.

no sleep = cranky Lacey

August 17, 2010

It’s 3:41 and I have been awake since oh, midnight something. Mind you, we didn’t even go to bed until a bit after 11. Yawn. We’ve been in this time zone for almost 3 weeks now, is my body ever going to adjust?! I tried going without naps, I tried taking short naps, I’ve tried getting up for a bit, I’ve tried laying there tossing and turning, I’ve tried getting up for good at 7am, I’ve tried sleeping in till 9am. If the option is out there (short of the bottle of wine I haven’t opened yet and sleeping pills which never work on me anyway), I have tried it.

To no avail.

It is getting very old.

Worst part?

Today is our Saturday. The day I could REALLY sleep in but, no. My body has different plans.

And my poor family.

I am already exhausted most of the time due to the CLL, then add on to that that fact that I am not getting any rest and it is taking a huge tool on my mood. Which in turn takes a huge toll on my family. Even though he would never admit it, I am sure Bryan is glad to be going to work lately to get away from me (although, I guess that won’t work for the next 3 days since he is off). I am much better at controlling my mood for Jacey than I am for him. I don’t know if it takes so much out of me mentally to put on a happy face for J that there is nothing left for him or if I just figure he is an adult and he can understand better. No clue what my reasoning is there.

Anyhow, I guess I should stop wasting time complaining. Life is busy enough without wasting time.

This morning, Bryan and Jacey are going to change the oil and rotate the tires in the vehicles. Normally I would go and help, but with Bryan’s schedule being so haywire lately (plus his commute is about double what it will be once we are in our house), he hasn’t had much one-on-one time with J, so I am going to attempt to lay down and sleep while they are gone. This afternoon, I don’t know what we are doing yet. We might go check out the Y that we plan to join once we move into the house. They have a waterpark that is open to the public, so we may hit that instead of the base pool. Or we might not, at this point who knows.

Tomorrow, we move into the cottages (temp houses) over on main base till we close on our house. Thank goodness, because I am sure the inconsiderate neighbors and screaming kids here in TLF are not helping my sleep issues. We’ll be closer to the plane noise, but no attached neighbors. Fair trade off in my book. We have to be around for cable/internet hook-up that afternoon and I have to get my allergy shots at some point. We’ll probably also hit the pool again, it’s hard to keep my little daredevil off the high platform diving board now that she has discovered the thrill. I suppose at some point I should also make a menu and grocery list too, since I’ll actually have more than 6 inches of counter space to work in.

Thursday, we are getting the vehicles tinted (my front two windows and Bryan’s whole car). We should have already done it, but it’s been a bit busy. We both have dark gray vehicles with black interior which equal HOT in this Vegas sun and I am tried of roasting my legs and hiney on the leather seats every time I get in the truck. At least Bryan has cloth seats so it is a bit more tolerable (of course 9 times out of 10 he is in a flightsuit when he gets in his car, so his legs are protected unlike mine). Afterward, we are heading to check out the Lied Discovery Children’s Museum. Something fun for J since we have to take care of “business” so much and drag her along.

Friday, Bryan is back to work for his 5 and hopefully we’ll have the seller signed contract on our house so I can get J registered for school. We’re less than 2 weeks away from school starting and I am beginning to get a bit stressed over having her registered based on the address of the new house (and having a school supply list would be helpful too). Keep us in your prayers that things keep moving along smoothly and quickly. This market is so nuts right now.

Grateful Friday

August 13, 2010

1. We got a spot in one of the cottages on main base and get out of this nasty TLF in 5 days.

2. Everything with the new house is moving along, surprisingly quickly for a foreclosure.

3. Dry heat..yes, I am grateful for the 123 I walked out to in my truck today…LOL!

4. I am learning my way around and think in a few more weeks I won’t need to rely on the GPS anymore.

5. Did I mention that we get out of TLF in 5 days?!
